It depends what it is. For internet orders, I pay via Credit card. For large purchases (mattress, furniture etc) I pay via Credit card…for everyday items..cash.

I pay cash for personal life things but use my credit card for our business stuff, due to having a credit card that gives us fly miles and I get to take free trips each year.

I pay with cash, check and credit card. I use all of them. I prefer to pay with check so I can see readily where my money is going. When I get paid, I get a set amount of cash. When that cash is gone, I’m done buying anything until next payday. I don’t ever use a debit card or an ATM card. My friends marvel that I’m able to save and invest so much money but that is why. I rarely use a credit card because I don’t want to pay the high interest rates and if I can’t afford to write a check for an item, I don’t buy it.

You should listen to the Dave Ramsey show on radio. He tells all about finance and how to effectively handle your money. He has some really good ideas and I listen to him. Just google Dave Ramsey and you can find out what radio stations.

…well that’s a very “academic” question… buying “something” is wayyy to broad… for example. I want to buy a “something” in Wal-Mart..? most likely “cash”…a small non-inconsequential purchase… An automobile…? most likely with a check and a credit line…pay it off in time.
Medical bills… just leave your first born son on the counter because they will want more… It all depends on what it is that your buying……

A lot of times people will stick around a dead-beat so they can get their money back. Sometimes they’re foolish enough to lend them even more money. The reasoning goes “well, if I alienate this person, I’ll never get my money back”. At least she didn’t give him even more!

She needs to sue him. Send her down to the courthouse to get the necessary paperwork. There is also a website for this (see link below)

Does she have receipts for the small amounts he did pay back? I ask because he could always claim he paid more than he did.

She can’t sue in small claims court in NY (up to $5,000). It would be well worth it to consult with an attorney.

Here I use only cash and don’t have credit cards at all.

When livingin the States I had credit cards and I did use them a lot. I also paid all bills each month in total. Actually if a person pays attention to what they are doing you can earn money by using credit. f you pay interest then you only spend omore.

Most do not use credit wisely.

If you can’t afford something in cash you probably don’t need it and if you save your hard earned money for it you might decide it’s not worth it… Although if you do have credit cards purchasing a few things each month might build you credit. Try to pay the credit card off each month so you will not have to pay interest.

THIS IS TOUGH THE GUY IS OBVIOUSLY A PREDATOR.
YOU CAN SUE HIM BUT IF HE HAS NOTHING WHAT WILL YOU GET ? YOU CAN’T GET BLOOD FROM A ROCK. THE ONLY LEGAL RECOURSE YOU HAVE IS TO SUE HIM FOR THE MONEY. BUT SUING HIM DOESN’T MEAN YOUR GOING TO GET THE MONEY. DOES THIS BUM HAVE A JOB ? IF YOU GET A FAVORABLE DECISION FROM A JUDGE YOU COULD HAVE HIS WAGES GARNISHED. OTHER THAN THAT THEIR IS REALLY NOTHING MUCH YOU CAN DO. TAKE IT AS AN EXPERIENCE AND MOVE ON. YOU STILL ARE OBLIGATED TO PAY THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY. About the cash. That is not true. A business can refuse to take cash but take other payment methods Credit, Debit, Check or other form of electronic payment.

I heard the news about plane requiring a credit or debit card. There are two type of cards you can buy with cash before boarding the plane. One is prepaid debit card with MasterCard or Visa symbol. The other is a prepaid airline card which can only be used on that airline. The bad thing about the MasterCard and Visa prepaid debit card -may not work for adult purchases like drinks but the prepaid airline card should work.

Airlines go to different countries and the passengers may be carrying all sorts of currencies too. If you pay in currency of the country where this Airline is there they will accept that. Rest only cards.

One of my cards sends me purchase checks. They look like real checks and you can make them out to yourself to deposit or cash and you pay only the purchase APR — no cash advance fees or APR.

See if your credit card does this.

This is called a civil dispute. She needs to get all of her paperwork together and contact either an attorney or a clerk in your local civil court. She will need to show how much he borrowed and how much he payed back. Even then, it may be tough to get the money.
If he doesn’t have a job, you can’t attach his earnings and even if you win in court — if no job, how can he pay.
Unfortunately, this is one of those expensive life lessons. Never loan a friend money. If you can not afford to just give them the money, tell them no.
