Managing cash flow is every small business owner’s most
important function. Avoid these seven deadly mistakes to make
sure you aren’t creating cash flow problems in your business.
1. Using the “Fly By The Seat of Your Pants” Accounting Method.
When tax time rolls around do you find yourself pawing through
piles of paper on your desk looking for credit card receipts
from your business trip? Or are you upside down digging under
the seat of your car trying to figure out where all your gas
receipts are? Are you wondering if that coffee stained piece of
paper is an invoice from a supplier? Do you have a vague feeling
that someone, somewhere owes you money but, you just can’t
remember who it is? If so, you’re probably guilty of operating
with the “Fly By the Seat of Your Pants” accounting method.
Using this accounting method has a tremendous impact on your
business’s cash flow. Unless you have a system to track your
business finances, you’ll always be operating in the dark and in
danger of imitating George of the Jungle as he slams into a tree.
2. Not Knowing What the Numbers Are All About.
Once you have a real honest to goodness useful accounting system
that’s where the real fun starts. You’ve got a bunch of numbers
but what in the world do you do with them? Understanding what
the numbers mean is crucial to your cash flow. Are sales
trending up or down? Are expenses rising faster than sales? Is
one product more profitable or better selling than another? How
much do I need to sell to meet expenses each month? Can I take a
paycheck this month? The answers all lie in the numbers.
3. Mismanaging Credit: I Owe You, You Owe Me.
There are two ways to mismanage credit in small business:
1. Granting credit without wise credit policies 2. Using credit
with no plan of how to pay the bill.
Both have a huge impact on your cash flow and are often closely
related. Here’s a scenario to demonstrate that point. You have
an opportunity to work on a big project but to do the project
you need to order materials. So, you order materials from a
supplier who expects payment in 30 days but you won’t receive
cash for the project for 60 days (or 90). Immediately you’ve put
yourself into a cash flow crunch that could take months or years
to recover from financially. In the meantime you’ve passed on
smaller jobs that would have provided quicker cash at less cost.
And, if you’re not able to come up with the cash for your
supplier, you’ve endangered that relationship as well.
4. Ignoring the relationship between Receivables and Payables.
Do your Receivables and Payables “play nice” with each other? In
a perfect world your receivables (what customers owe you) would
be paid just in time for you to pay your payables (what you owe
your vendors). But, if you’re a small business owner you know
Rule #1 is “Stuff Happens”. The customer you thought would pay
his bill this week, doesn’t. So the bills you thought you could
pay this week, don’t get paid.
Are your Payables in balance with you Receivables? If what you
owe to others is far more than what is owed to you, then,
Houston, you have a problem.
And it’s not just the balance that’s important, it’s the quality
as well. If your receivables are as old as your Aunt Tilly,
chances are good you’ll never see the cash.
5. Focusing on profit instead of cash flow.
Ahh, Profit. The ultimate goal of every business. Or is it? Did
you know that many businesses that fail are operating at a
profit? How can that be? For the small business, cash flow is
the ultimate goal. No cash flow. No business. Period.
What’s the difference? Mostly the difference is in the decision
making process. “If I take on this big job, it will earn me a
huge profit, but if I take on five smaller jobs, I’ll have cash
to pay my bills.” Yes, you want to be profitable but every
decision has to be measured against the effect it will have on
cash flow.
6. Forgetting your debt to society.
Some bills are easy to forget. Bills like sales tax, payroll
taxes, estimated taxes. They sort of sit out there, almost off
the radar screen. They don’t have to be paid right away. It’s
easy to forget them until BAM! they’re due and they’re due right
now. And you better have the money to pay them or you’re in hot
water with the Tax Man. That’s not a place anyone wants to be.
Pay them late or not at all and you end up with penalties and
interest on top of what’s already due. Cash flow problems result
as you rob Peter to pay Paul. It can take months or even years
to recover.
7. Spending your company’s future on a speed boat.
Haven’t you always wanted a speed boat? Or a fancy car? Or an
all expense paid trip to the Bahamas? It might be tempting to
try to pass your personal purchases off as tax deductible
business expenses. But, it’s a bad idea for two reasons.
The folks who work at the IRS are over-worked but they’re not
stupid. The last thing you need is an audit. An audit that could
reveal your transgressions and could result in an unexpected tax
bill plus penalties and interest. Again, huge cash flow headache!
Here’s the other reason it’s a bad idea. Are you spending your
company’s future on frivolous or unnecessary expenses? Small
businesses operate close to the edge. Unless you have a reserve
to see you through the tough times, you’re always in danger of
being on the wrong side of that edge. You’ve got to take care of
the golden egg laying goose first. Then, you can pay yourself a
properly taxed bonus and buy all the toys you want.

I need to make money, to pay for school. I don’t qualify for a loan but my parents are iffy on paying for my education too. Basically i need to somehow make 5000-6000 dollars in a little over a month or at least make 3000 just to pay for half of it and half later. What jobs out there could let me do that? I already work in retail, part time, but it pays me very very little and even if i go full-time i will not make much more either (I calculated it and it’s pathetic numbers) I have thought of being an exotic dancer, because the pay is great, but I don’t like the nature of the job and plus I would be afraid of someone finding out that’s what i did to pay for college. But I would like to find a job that will let me do something physically and something like go-go dancing? I don’t know….any suggestions will be appreciated!!!! (Waitressing didnt’ work for me either, lol, i tried it and i was the worst waitress ever)

It has kinda high miles for being 3 years old (65K) but I only need a car for 1-3 years. Plus I already have a loan and my own money so I won’t have to do any financing with this place, just “cash” payment. So would anyone help me decide if this place seems legit?

PS: The people who run it are ASE Certified mechanics and have agreed to let me take it to 2 different mechanics before I buy.

Cash in advance loans in the UK are small, short-term, unsecured cash loans that help people meet their unexpected expenses until their payday. These loans can be used to meet any expense like car repairs, medicals bills, school fees, etc. that cannot be delayed until you receive your next pay check.

People in the UK can opt for a cash advance loan up to 1000 pounds with the repayment period between two and four weeks. These days, it has become very common to apply for the loan through the Internet, which proves to be faster and easier than doing it off-line.

Advantages Cash Advance in the UK

1. The creditors usually have easy requirements. These loans can be availed by any UK resident, who is of 18 years of age with a regular income and a current bank account.

2. Cash advances can be applied online. No credentials need to be submitted.

3. No collateral has to be given for the loan. It is issued against the borrowers next pay cheque and has to be repaid on the next pay day. Therefore, these cash advances are also called payday loans.

4. There is no credit check done for the borrower before giving the loan. Because of this people with bad credit history or those facing bankruptcy can also apply for the payday loan.

5. Once the loan is approved, it is directly credited to the borrowers account within 24 hours. Repayment is also in the same way. On the due date, the account of the borrower is debited. If the borrower is unable to pay on the due date, he can roll over the loan for another term for a small fee.

Things to Consider before Taking the Loan

The simplicity of availing cash advance loans has given it wide popularity. However, there are things to be taken into consideration here. These loans are short-term unsecured loans. Therefore they have a reasonably higher rate of interest that the other loans available in the market. If you roll over the loan for another term then a fee has to be paid.

This can make the loan become expensive. Another sore point is that, once the credit is so easily available the borrowers will spend more and incur more loans to pay of impending debts. They will be caught in a debt trap. These disadvantages have to be borne in mind while opting for the payday loan. These cash advances are worthwhile when you need urgent cash and you can pay the loan out of your next pay check.

If you are interested in cash back credit cards offers, make it a point to study all the features and charges of each card, and not just the offers that give you cash back or bonus points. The best credit cards include the best cash rebate credit card with which you can earn bonuses for using the card on daily purchases. Using them can be really convenient, especially if you are not comfortable with carrying a lot of cash. Cash rebate credit cards are beneficial for the customers as it allows them to earn cash rebate whenever these cards are used.

Credit cards with cash back help you save money on eligible purchases and get them back in the form of checks, gift certificates, or you can use them to pay your balance. The best cash back credit cards offer up to 5% on eligible purchases and 1% on all other purchases. There are various credit card companies which entitle you with reward points which can be redeemed against free air miles, cash back or discounts. Cash back credit cards are typically given to those with good, very good or excellent credit ratings. If you have great credit, then you should be glad to know that you are qualified to apply for cash back credit cards. The best cash rebate credit cards are for excellent credit, like platinum cards. In many cases, cash rebate credit cards tend to carry a higher interest rate than other credit cards available on the market. That is why the only people who really should use cash rebate credit cards are the people who pay their balances each and every month. So, it is better to use a cash back credit card only when you want to spend according to the budget; that means you use the credit card for the convenience only, and every month you will pay off the full balance. If you tend to carry a balance on your credit card, then you should probably forego the cash rebate credit cards and opt for low interest credit cards instead, otherwise the cash rebate you receive from the credit card may very likely be less than the excess interest you end up paying.

The best cash back credit cards will let you save not only with credit card rewards programs, but with attractive rates too. You can compare cash back credit card offers from the leading credit companies and find the best credit cards online. The cash back credit card, which is a basic, no frills cash rebate credit card, pays 1% standard cash rebate on the total spending. However, the everyday purchase cash rebate credit card pays more than 1% rebate on daily purchases that are mostly made at the supermarkets, and gas stations.

Now that more and more credit card companies are offering cash rebate credit cards, it seems that everyone wants one. After all, who would not want to get cash rebate on everything they charge to their credit card. If credit card holders charged their cash back credit cards for each and every purchase they made, it would be like getting everything on sale, making credit cards with cash back, or cash rebate credit cards, wonderful to make big purchases. For some credit card holders, cash rebate credit cards are not as wonderful as they first appear to be. But, do not get me wrong, I am not saying cash rebate credit cards are a bad thing. Let me reiterate that I think cash rebate credit cards are absolutely wonderful for those who do not carry a balance on them. In fact, I think cash rebate cards are the best credit cards, if you use them wisely.

Cash rebate credit cards are indeed a dream come true for a large number of credit card holders, since getting a sale on nearly everything you buy is a great money saver. It is certainly true that cash rebate cards are here to stay and they are getting more popular all the time. If the features, rewards and bonuses seem attractive to you, make a few card comparisons online. When you do, you are sure to find a cash rebate card that fulfills your needs.

Times certainly have changed for American Express. Gone are the days where the American Express card was simply a charge card that had to be paid off in full every month. Yes, the old workhorse - the green card - is still available and popular too. However, American Express decided to take MasterCard and VISA on directly by offering its own line of credit cards. These “blue” cards have been such a hit with consumers that the admired financial giant is now offering four different blue cards from which consumers can choose. Each American Express blue card is different, so let’s take a look at just what makes each one so special.

American Express Sky Blue, The Ultimate Travel Rewards Card

Sky Blue - If you are tired of all those rewards cards that promise you a weekend in Las Vegas, but can only deliver you an overnight stay in Providence, then the Sky Blue card should appeal to you. Touted by American Express as putting an end to travel reward card restrictions, Sky Blue goes where no other American Express blue card has gone before it. With absolutely no black out dates and no travel restrictions, the Sky Blue card allows for card holders to travel where they want, when they want. But, it even gets better: 0% introductory APR and no annual fee; discounts on airline tickets, hotel stays, and car rentals. You even get free coverage on rental car insurance and travel accident insurance with Sky Blue.

Blue Cash For Cold, Hard Cash

Blue Cash - If it is cold, hard cash that you want, then there isn’t a card that matches the American Express Blue Cash card. This is no 1% or 2% cash back card; the Blue Cash card is one that really works for card holders as it gives back 5% cash on just about everything you buy. Save 5% on gas. Save 5% on drugstore visits, on the bills you pay, and on so much more. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about redeeming your points as every year American Express will give you your earnings back to you in the form of a big fat credit to your account!

The Original Blue: The American Express Blue Card

Blue - The American Express Blue card was the card that got the whole blue movement rolling. Although it isn’t as power packed with the features found in Sky Blue or Blue Cash, the Blue card is still a worthy choice. If you select “Blue” you get 0% APR for up to 15 months, 4.99% APR on balance transfers for the life of the loan, and you will earn points toward the American Express free rewards program. Yes, there is no annual fee with the Blue card either!

Jet Blue: The Airline And The Card

Jet Blue - Named for the airline it represents, the American Express Jet Blue card allows card holders to accumulate points toward free Jet Blue Airways flights. Using the card the very first time nets users a cool 5,000 points right off the bat. You can also get double points at many places where you like to shop or eat.

As you have read, the competition for credit card carrying customers is heating up. With an American Express Blue Card you can receive benefits not available to customers of competing card companies. What are you waiting for? Put an American Express Blue Card in your wallet today and reap all of the rewards!

In this rapidly deteriorating economic climate, emergency cash loans and payday loans are becoming increasingly popular. The problem with these is that more and more people that have never required a short term unsecured loan in the past are finding a need to obtain one for that ‘rainy day’ for which they have no longer been able to save up.

Many people are spending their savings, and the term ‘life savings’ is now a bit of a joke. Those that can afford a life savings scheme don’t need it, and those that need it can’t afford it. Of course I don’t mean that literally, because many people are saving and need their savings, but nevertheless the sentiment is pretty accurate. Saving is getting harder, and when that unexpected expense comes along then those that not too many years ago would have had something put by to cover it no longer can.

Hence the upsurge in emergency loans and payday loans, and there is really very little to chose between them. This guide is intended for the newcomer to this type of short-term borrowing, and how you can make it work for you, or how it can cost you more than you can rally afford. It’s all about using the loan for the right reason and paying it back as agreed.

THE AMOUNT

Unless you are dealing with a company with few morals, you will likely be offered no more than up to $1,000 for your first loan. Some companies restrict that to $600 for first time customers. The reason for that is that the loan is not secured, and even though legal action would sequester the cash back from your income, most loan companies would rather not do so for a large amount, and it is easier and less expensive to recover a small amount than a large amount.

Once you have successfully repaid your first loan, then the amount you can subsequently borrow steadily increases.

THE REASON

The reason for taking such a loan has to be compelling. If you can borrow from a family member or good friend then do so because it will ultimately be less expensive for you (unless they charge you a high rate of interest!). It is not economical to use an emergency loan to pay another loan, although if you are in danger of defaulting on accredit card payment you might think the extra expense worth maintaining your good credit record: no price can be put on that.

However if your credit is shot, as it is with many people seeking emergency cash, it would likely make no difference other than the fact that you could likely negotiate lower charges with the credit card provider than you would get with a payday loan.

There are other reasons for needing emergency cash loans apart from being unable to pay regular bills, among them family deaths where the life insurance is insufficient to meet all the expenses. This is becoming more common as process rise while investment rates remain stagnant. The same is true at the other end of the life scale: weddings. These too can be high cost events that few couples or their parents have had the opportunity to plan for financially.

In such cases, emergency payday loans are a boon, and it is a case of get the event over and paid for and then worry about repaying it. However, and this is one of the major points of this section, a regular loan, either secured or unsecured, will be considerable less expensive than an emergency loan. So if you have two or three weeks to spare, apply for a regular loan that can be paid over a longer period of time. Emergency cash loans are real emergencies when cash is short.

THE COST

Interest rates vary, but they are not termed that - they are generally referred to as the fee. That can be anything the lender wants but the average is around 25% for up to a month. So if you get paid on the last day of the month and borrow $400 on, say, the 10th, you will pay back $500 the following payday. And if you fail to do so, because you can’t afford it, then you can ‘roll over’ the loan and repay it the following payday with another fee, so you pay back $600.

That is why you must be able to meet the arrangement. To people in real need, who have perhaps just had a massive drain on their monthly salary for whatever reason, $400 to tide them by on grocery bills till the end of the month is fine, and they can easily repay $500 from their paycheck. However, if not, then it can be very expensive, that is all I am saying. I am not saying don’t do it - heck I have done it twice myself, which is why I know so much about it - but do it with your eyes open and pay on time.

THE PROCESS

There are several different procedures, and not all lenders work the same way. Here are some of the variables:

1. Credit checks: some lenders will carry out a credit check and some will not. You might get a lower fee if you have a good credit record, but a bad credit record will not stop you getting the emergency cash loan. Because:

2. Security: the loan might be legally classed as unsecured, but you have to be in employment to get one, and also have a checking account, or current account as it is called in the UK. The security is that the lender has you sign a direct debit form so that the payment is taken from your bank account on payday.

Now, they have no means of knowing when your payday is, but if you fail to pay they can have an arrestment order on your wages, so that your next paycheck comes with the repayment taken off. Your employer is bound by law to adhere to the arrestment order. That can be embarrassing, which is why you should stick to the agreement.

3. Arrangement: The way that my two loans were arranged went as so with two different loan companies:

a) I applied using an online form, providing the usual personal details, plus my monthly net income, my pay date, and the telephone number of the company - not the name, just the number.

b) I filled in an online direct debit mandate providing my bank details and account number.
c) The lender called the company and asked for me. When they were put through I was asked my date of birth and monthly salary. That was how they checked that I worked for the company, and me knowing the details indicated that it was I that filled in the form.

d) The cash was put into my bank account.

That was it - with both companies. Now I know that some ask for you to fax your bank statements and payslips, but you can avoid that if you deal with the companies on my website. There are the easy ways and the hard ways. In fact one of the two companies I dealt with had the cash in bank within 2 hours of me applying by means of a CHAPS payment - that type of payment usually costs a fee, but it came free. Well, you know what I mean. I didn’t pay for it in advance let’s say, but it was certainly included in the fee!

So there you are. That’s how I did it. Twice. I paid them back at the right time, and the loans helped out a great deal. I no longer need such services but they are great if used properly. I can help you do the same thing if you really need the money: but you must really need it now, because otherwise you are better arranging a longer term secured or even unsecured loan.
